[IMG: A Coffeetable is Work - Hanging Large]

The image is of the piece installed in a room at the artist’s Art Ranch in Visitacion Valley. We're looking through a ragged hole in one of the walls and into a space gutted to the outside framing. Black tarpaper is visible where the interior wall surfaces have been removed. In the midst of the minimalist decoration is a French Provincial coffeetable suspended invisibly from the ceiling at a 45 degree angle. Since the magazines, art books, and photo albums often found on coffeetables are carved in high relief on the surface of the table, they don't fall off and are prearranged to capture just the right look. At the far end of the table is a miniature model of the table itself, in a self-referential example of coffetable art.
