[IMG: The Lessons - Artist at Work]

Select image to reduce

The image depicts the artist at work during the installation of the piece in San Francisco's City Hall. She is shown arranging the blocks atop the glass, which is lit from below. The glass and blocks are contained in what looks like a very old school desk with writing surface upraised. Her hands hover over the blocks like those of a sorcerer while the box is supported by crowbars twisted into a right angle and serving as wall brackets. The edge of the desk is slightly above eye level and the light source is powered by five electrical cords, or more properly barbed wire, which continue down to a powerstrip mounted on the custom base.
